Backbone is a gritty, noir style hard-boiled detective game. Players will uncover clues, interview perps, and investigate scenes while following the case. This review is based off of the free demo version “Prologue” and the actual game is not set to release until sometime in 2020. That being said, I believe that this demo gives players a good look at what they can expect from the full release next year.
- Story rich. This game relies heavily on the story as it well should. The game takes players through a detective story and gives the feel of reading an old sleuth novella. It has a gritty feel to it that is so fitting for that type of a story.
- Characters. There are many colorful characters that the player can interact with. Players will have the opportunity to carry on long conversations and choose from several dialogue options with many of them.
- Interaction. The player is able to interact with and investigate many items within the game world. Searching every area thoroughly will become important to solving the case!
- Adult themed. It probably goes without saying that there will be adult themes within a game that follows a private eye around, but I’ll mention it anyways.
Over-all, I really enjoyed playing this demo and look forward to the full release next year. I enjoy detective stories, so this game really spoke to me as a player. I liked being able to put on my sleuth hat and follow the leads into the dark gritty world of Backbone!
